Saudi police are searching for the shooters of former municipal councilor who sustained gun wounds in the back and leg, Al Arabiya local news reported on Sunday.
The incident took place on Thursday while the victim Nabiah Al Ibrahim was driving his car in Al Awamiah in the Eastern Province, in which he was intercepted by a group of masked men who asked him to step out from the car and shot him when he refused.
According to his brother, the former councilor was targeted after he was assigned by the government to negotiate with the residents to demolish old and deserted houses in the area that shelter terrorists and fugitives.
Al Awamiah is one of few areas in the eastern province that witness similar violent activities by youth are who members of the minority Shiite community in Saudi Arabia, in demand for more rights in the conservative Sunni state.
On Friday, the police killed a Saudi fugitive wanted in a number of security cases in crossfire when he resisted his arrest in the province.
The deceased Mustafa Ali Abdullah Al Madad wanted for a number of terrorist cases against citizens, police personnel and public property, mainly in Qatif region.
