Qatar yesterday extended congratulations to Egypt, its people and its president-elect Mohamed Mursi “on the success of the democratic approach in the first presidential elections” for the country. “Qatar also expressed appreciation for the role of the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces and Egypt’s judges in maintaining the democratic approach and making it a success,” the official Qatar News Agency (QNA) said. “With this step, Egyptians have taken their country towards democracy so it could resume its great historic role,” the agency said. HH the Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani, HH the Deputy Emir and Heir Apparent Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani and HE the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jabor al-Thani have sent cables of congratulations to Mursi, QNA said. Members of the Egyptian community in Doha celebrated Mursi’s victory. Other Middle East countries also welcomed the election of Mursi as Egypt’s first president following the ouster of Hosni Mubarak. Emir greets Mursi HH the Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani last night telephoned Mohamed Mursi to greet him on winning the presidential elections. The Emir wished the Egyptian president-elect success in his assignment and ties between Qatar and Egypt of further progress and prosperity.
