Patriarch of Antioch and all the East, Mar Ignatius Zakka I Iwas, said on Monday that Syria will remain staunch against all conspiracies, adding that "we are proud that our fathers inherited us this glory as all civilizations meet in the word of Syria." In a speech to the Syrian TV, Patriarch Iwas said the church should present to the world the Syrian citizen who is successful and faithful to his homeland. He stressed that President Bashar al-Assad will make the reform process a sign of pride and glory to our history, adding that "we have to be patient." He expressed his optimism over the future of Syria under the leadership of President Bashar al-Assad, saying that Syria has always been a place for security and stability and will remain like that.
