The Lebanese Army Command called Monday on citizens, municipal councils and civil society organizations not to post banners, posters and pictures expressing their solidarity with the military establishment on Army Day on Aug. 1. The Army thanked in a statement all the Lebanese for their “sincere feelings and honest love,” affirming its deep confidence in the their commitment to the unity of the country, its people, territory and institutions. It hoped that citizens wishing to express their solidarity with the military establishment on its day would rally around the Army and show loyalty to the sacrifices of its martyrs who died for the sake of Lebanon. Last week, the Army accused some MPs and politicians of inciting citizens against the military institution, hinting it might sue anyone trying to defame military personnel. It urged its supporters to avoid blocking roads. From Dailystar
