Jordan and the World Bank (WB) are currently discussing a number of projects that need funding, mainly the Jordanian Entrepreneurship Project and Phase II of support to municipalities hosting Syrian refugees, a statement by Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation said on Sunday.
The two sides are also discussing a loan to support reforms in the educational sector and another for health and a third for youth. Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Imad Fakhoury said that discussions on said projects would be completed during the coming few months. The minister made the remarks after his participation in the World Bank and International Monetary Fund’s spring meetings, which were held in Washington. Fakhouri took part in his capacity as Jordan’s Governor at the World Bank and chairman of the WB and IMF Board of Governors for 2017.
During the meetings, Fakhouri met with top WB and IMF officials, where he expressed Jordan’s appreciation of the support provided by the two international organizations to help middle-income and Syrian refugees host countries, like Jordan, to receive concessional financing. The minister also briefed the WB and IMF officials on the latest economic developments in the Kingdom and the ramifications of hosting large numbers of Syrian refugees on Jordan’s scarce resources.
Meanwhile, the WB and IMF officials said they were keen to continue to provide support to Jordan in appreciation of its developmental model and for hosting large numbers of Syrian refugees.
