The Bahrain Free Labour Unions Federation (Al-Hurr) has called for the need to devise a comprehensive unified vision on human resources development across Arab countries which are suffering from poverty. unemployment, wars and terrorism, which are the main factors that lead to depression and its negative impacts on production sectors.
In a statement marking the World Health Day 2017, observed worldwide today under the theme "Depression: Let's Talk", Al-Hurr asserted that Bahrain had laid solid foundations for social justice and human development within its 2030 development plan, in accordance with the Reform Project spearheaded by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, who has been keen on ensuring the well-being of everyone by all possible means.
Achieving social justice, granting workers the right to form trade unions that express their aspirations and ensuring equal opportunities at production sectors are among the factors that reduce depression, Al-Hurr said.
The statement also pointed out that comprehensive human resources development is one of the means to combat depression from which many Arab communities are suffering as a result of their economic and social problems.
Depression causes mental anguish and can impact on people’s ability to carry out even the simplest everyday tasks, with sometimes devastating consequences for relationships with family and friends, the statement said, quoting the World Health Organisation (WHO), adding that untreated depression can prevent people from working and participating in family and community life.
