Egypt’s population reached 91 million at home, rising by one million in only six months since December 2015, the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) said.
In a statement released on Tuesday on the occasion of the International Woman Day, CAPMAS reported that the number of females hit 49 percent.
Meanwhile, the number of females working in the judicial sector reached 43 percent, compared with 57 percent for males.
As per the labor force, females constituted 22.5 percent of Egypt's task force compared with 70.5 for males.
Greater Cairo came first as the highest populated governorate at 9.51 million inhabitants, followed by Giza with 7.84 million, then Sharqiya with 6.7 million, meanwhile South Sinai came last with an estimated 171 thousand inhabitants.
A 2.4 percent population growth rate was registered in 2015; twice as high as the growth rate in other developing countries and five times higher than the rate in developed countries, the agency added.
Egypt’s population is expected to reach 92 million in November, and nearly 100 million including Egyptian expatriates.
Only 7.7 per cent of Egypt's land is populated.
