Egypt celebrates the 38th anniversary of the glorious October 6 victory during the 1973 October War when the Egyptian army defeated the Israeli army and regained Sinai. Cairo airport authorities closed down Cairo air space for an hour until the military armed air forces performance ended. The performance is part of October’s glorious victory. The air space closed down at 2:00 P.M, and five flights were obliged to land at Alexandria airport until Cairo air space was reopened again. Military aircrafts flied over Cairo today and the chairman of Egypt’s ruling military council, Hussein Tantawi, visited and placed flowers on the memorial of the Unknown Soldiers in Nasr City on Wednesday morning, where Egypt’s third president Anwar el-Sadat was assassinated and buried. The governorate of North Sinai also celebrated October victory. Governor of North Sinai Abdul Wahab Mabrouk, military governor Mostafa Alam Eldin, the governorate’s security director, Saleh Masry, the governorate security general, Gaber AlArabi, local political and executive leaders, members of political coalitions, sheikhs and other city leaders placed flowers on the Unknown Soldier’s graves in the city of Arish. They also attended arts and sports of school students performances. The governor transferred Tantawi’s congratulations to Sinai residents and honor for the martyrs of 1973 October War who scarified their souls for Egypt. The general council of Arish, which includes all tribute sheikhs, had a local march in the streets of Arish as a part of the celebration. They also visited the memorial of the Unknown Soldiers and placed flowers there. In the governorate of Fayoum, its governor Ahmed Ali Ahmed attended the celebrations of the victory of the October War in Qaron Square. Celebrations began with singing the Egyptian anthem. Ahmed put flowers in memorial of the Unknown Soldier. The governor said the victory of the October War reminds Egyptians of great examples of sacrifice, bravery and national unity. Deputies of Ministries of Social Solidarity, Housing, Education, Policemen and many Muslims and Christians attended the celebration ceremonies. Sinai and Canal cultural region began celebrating October victory on Wednesday. The Ismailia cultural center organized a seminar about the October War and Arabic bands’ performance tomorrow. It will be attended by one of the leaders of the October War. The Freedom and Justice Party, in cooperation with the Muslim Brotherhood in Alexandria, are organizing a celebration called ‘Egypt the Victory celebrating October 6’ on Thursday in Mahkamet Dekhela Square. The party will honor warriors of the 1973 October War and martyrs of the Egyptian January 25 Revolution. Egyptian presidential candidate, Mohamed el-Baradei, congratulates Egyptians of the October victory anniversary and said Egyptians are creative and able to achieve miracles. Al-Azhar’s grand Imam, Sheikh Ahmed al-Tayeb, also sent a congratulatory letter to Tantawi over the victory of the October War. Al-Tayeb also praised the armed forces soldiers who protect Egypt and wished more progress and development for Egypt
