The Arab League has praised the Doha declaration on achieving a reconciliation for Palestinian Unity Agreement, expressing its support for the serious steps applied by Palestinian authorities and factions to end divisions and give effect to the Palestinian National Reconciliation Agreement signed in Cairo May 4th, 2011. Mohamed Sobeih, the Arab League Assistant Secretary General for Palestinian Affairs and Occupied Arab Lands, expressed hope that the agreement, signed by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and Head of Hamas movement's Political Bureau Khalid Meshaal, constituted a crucial step in terms of unifying Palestinian institutions and leaving behind the era of division and starting an era of reconciliation and unity. "The Arab League lauds the positive results which characterized the Palestinian unity meetings, namely the Doha declaration which we look forward to the summit due to be held on Feb. 18th in Cairo with high hopes for re-building the Palestine liberation organization in participation of all factions and announcing a new Palestinian government which will prepare for the elections and re-construct what has been destroyed during the Gaza invasion," he explained. Sobeih urged all Palestinian sects, factions and institutions to support the steps taken so far to carry out the said unity agreement and what had been agreed upon on the ground in Doha, stressing the importance of prioritizing the supreme national Palestinian interest, which calls for the end of divisions.
