Sheikha Lubna bint Khalid Al Qasimi, Minister of Development and International Co-operation, Head of U.A.E. Committee for the Coordination of Humanitarian Foreign Aid, has said that after more than one year of establishing the Emirati-Jordanian Camp for the Syrian Refugees in "Muraijeb al Fhood" in Jordan, U.A.E. is still asserting its commitment towards the Syrian brothers in their humanitarian crisis, in cooperation with international organisations, to fulfil its commitments declared in the First and Second Donors Conference in Kuwait.
In addition to the prominent role of the U.A.E. humanitarian organisations as per the directives of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and follow up of H.H. General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of U.A.E. Armed Forces, U.A.E. s donor organisations are working hard to alleviate the suffering of the Syrian Refugees.
Sheikha Lubna made the remarks, while touring the Emirati-Jordanian Camp Muraijeb al Fhood in Jordan, which U.A.E. has built and co-administered with the Jordanian side. She also thanked U.A.E. Unified Relief Team, staff of the Emirati Field Hospital in Al Mafraq, U.A.E. donors, Jordanian organisations, media, and partners of the international organisations and donor countries.
She also opened the General Emirati Medical Clinic at Al Zaatari Camp for the Syrian Refugees, which was funded by the "Big Heart" Campaign launched by H.H. Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, wife of Ruler of Sharjah and prominent advocate of the Refugee Children by the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), to keep pace with great increase in number of Syrian refugees numbers at Al Zaatari Camp and provide them with health services. The clinic will work around the clock, 7 days a week to provide basic healthcare, mental health, productive health, medical rehabilitation, nutrition, chronic and non-communicable diseases, second and third referral cases.
The clinic is equipped with a central lab, emergency centre, post-obstetric care, facilities for mental health and rehabilitation for people with special needs, pharmacy and drug storages.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of International Cooperation and Development (MICAD) announced, in a data update, that total U.A.E. s humanitarian aid to the Syrian Refugees since 2012 up to June 2014 reached Dh 484.5 million (US$ 132 million), channelled inside Syria and in neighbouring countries which are hosting Syrian refugees, e.g. Jordan, Iraq, Lebanon and Turkey. This is in addition to U.A.E. s commitment in April 2014, of providing Dh 220 million (US$ 60 million) in response to UN s plan inside and outside Syria. The pledge that U.A.E. was announced at Donor's Conference in Kuwait, in January 2014.
Sheikha Lubna affirmed that the efforts of the U.A.E. donors, and the Emirati media, in addition to the U.A.E. relief team at the camp and field hospital, carry a solidarity message sent from the U.A.E. leadership on dealing with humanitarian crises and disasters.
She added, "We may all remember this moment, more than a year ago, when we all participated in opening the Emirati Jordanian camp for the Syrian Refugees, here in "Muraijeb al Fhood", as per the vision of U.A.E. s wise leadership, represented by President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan represented by His Majesty King Abdullah II, for both countries to put honorific marks in the history of Humanitarian work and giving through the establishment of this state-of-art model camp according to the highest standards of humanitarian relief, in support of our brothers of the Syrian refugees, who lost their homes and families.
"After more than one year, here we are standing again at the Emirati Jordanian camp, witnessing hope and tranquillity in the hearts and eyes of our Syrian refugee's brothers, especially the women and children, because they were the most vulnerable. We also recognise the great role of the U.A.E.-Jordan Field Hospital in Al Mafraq, which is providing medical relief services for injured and patients," she added.
Concluding her speech, Sheikha Lubna extended her thanks and gratitude to the wise leadership of United Arab Emirates and Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. She also thanked the governments of the donor countries, UK and Norway, which are supporting the Camp, for their technical support, joint cooperation and coordination.
She also thanked all humanitarian organisations in U.A.E. and Jordan, UN agencies and programmes, international organisations, Emirati, Jordanian and international media, in addition to Dr. Abdullah Nasser Al Ameri, U.A.E. ambassador to Jordan, Hadi Hamad Al Kaabi, commander of U.A.E. Unified Relief Team, and all volunteering teams and non-government organisations, which rushed to participate and assist through providing a lot of their time for this noble mission.
She also honoured U.A.E. humanitarian organisations such as: U.A.E. Red Crescent, Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Humanitarian and Charitable Foundation, Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan Humanitarian and Charitable Foundation, Mohamed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Humanitarian and Charity Establishment, and Ahmed bin Zayed Al Nahyan Charitable & Humanitarian Foundation, the Executive Office for H.H. Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Dar Al Ber Society, Sharjah Charity Association and Sharjah Charity House.
Sheikha Lubna also honoured Jordanian organisations and entities, in addition to partners of the international organisations, such as: UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), UN Children's Fund (UNICEF), World Food Program (WFP), International Organisation for Migration (IOM), Save the Children and many other organisations, besides partners from Emirati, Jordanian and international media.
She was accompanied by Dr. Abdullah Nasser Al Ameri, U.A.E. ambassador to Jordan, Sultan Al Shamsi, MICAD Assistant Under-Secretary for International Development, and Rashid Al Teneiji, Director of Communication and International Relation Department.
