The National Assembly will spare no effort to occupy itself with women's causes, National Assembly Speaker Marzouq Al-Ghanim has said.
The Kuwaiti women's struggle for their rights is a historical exciting journey that started long ago and proceeded despite setbacks at certain points, Al-Ganim said in a press statement on Saturday on the occasion of the International Women's Day that falls on March 9.
In their long march, Kuwaiti women were armed with determination and awareness, he added.
Kuwaiti women, either through private institutions or individually, were able to obtain most of their human rights that were lacked in the past, on the political, social and employment levels, the Chief Parliamentarian noted. They were supported by political powers, cultural elite and civil society institutions as well as youth and student forces.
An example of the steady pace of women's march was obtaining their political rights in 2005.
This did not happen overnight but following more than half a century political and social struggle, Al-Ghanim stressed.
