At least six people, including two police officers, were killed Wednesday when a bomb placed on a bicycle went off near a police checkpoint in eastern Afghanistan, an official said. According to dpa, the bombing injured 13 civilians and occurred in a busy area in Pol-e-Alam in Logar province, Din Mohammad Darwish, a spokesman for its governor, said. In Kabul, two rockets landed inside the US embassy compound but there were no casualties, the embassy said. "All Americans are accounted for, and no injuries were sustained," the embassy said of the attack. Kabul police said they were not aware of the attack. The Taliban claimed responsibility, saying they fired four rockets. The attack inflicted "heavy casualties," spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said on his Twitter account. In another part of the capital, three policemen were injured while defusing three rockets placed on landmines near a military base. "One of the rockets exploded while police were defusing it," police spokesman Hashmat Stanikzay said. He said two other rockets were defused before the blast.
