Further details regarding the soldiers’ nationalities or the exact location of the attack, which occurred on Sunday, were not provided by NATO which confirmed the deaths. In another incident, four US-led foreign troopers were also wounded in southern Afghanistan’s Uruzgan Province. Afghan authorities said several Afghans were also injured in the attack. Since the start of the year, more than 162 foreign soldiers, mostly Americans, have been killed in Afghanistan. The US-led invasion of Afghanistan was launched in 2001. The offensives removed the Taliban from power, but insecurity continues to rise across the country, despite the presence of about 130,000 foreign troops. More than 3,000 civilians were killed and 4,507 others wounded in war-related violence in 2011.
