Twelve Taliban militants including a commander have been killed in an airstrike in Garamser district of south Afghanistan's Helmand province, Local officials said.
The district chief, Ayub Omar Omari, said that Afghan forces conducted the air raids in Gimak and Kharki areas of the district.
He said 12 militants were killed, including a notorious Taliban commander, and several others were wounded.
The governor's spokesman, Omar Zwak, confirmed the Taliban's casualties in Garamser and said security situation in the district was improving and the rebels were on the run.
Six of 14 districts of Helmand, the opium rich region, are completely under Taliban control. The Afghan forces control only centers of a number of other districts.
