A Palestinian was killed and around 40 others injured by Israeli gunfire during confrontations in the West Bank city of Ramallah on Thursday, Palestinian medical sources said.
Large demonstrations were staged in Ramallah on Thursday to protest Israel's offensive in the Gaza Strip, which led to fierce clashes between Palestinian protesters and Israeli soldiers near Qalandiya checkpoint.
A Health Ministry official in Ramallah told Xinhua that a 25- year-old man was killed instantly after Israeli soldiers shot him in the head. At least 80 Palestinians were also injured during the clashes.
The death toll in Gaza has mounted to 797 by Thursday night, while more than 5,000 Palestinians have been injured since Israel' s military operation against Gaza began on July 8. Israel has also lost four civilians and 28 troops.
Despite the ongoing regional and international efforts to end the fighting between Israel and Gaza militants, all endeavors have not yielded any results so far.
