Over 1,100 militants were killed in a military operation in northern tribal region of Pakistan bordering Afghanistan since June 15, said military on Wednesday.
According to media wing of Pakistan military, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), more than 1,100 terrorists were killed during military operation 'Zarb-i-Azb' launched in North Waziristan and 44 others during 'Khyber-I' operation in the Khyber tribal region. "We are conducting a deliberate and sure-footed operation, whenever an area is cleared the next step is to consolidate it and handover its control to the political administration," Maj Gen Asim Bajwa, spokesman for ISPR, said in a press conference.
The military spokesman further said, "We have special Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) units to get rid of the recovered explosives and those explosives which cannot be disarmed are discarded via a controlled explosion." He added that the militants who were killed and arrested included people of various nationalities.
Mr. Bajwa said that at least 2,500 raids had been carried out across the country with the help of intelligence agencies during the Zarb-i-Azb, Khyber I and Karachi operations, adding that the military operation would continue in the two tribal regions until the areas were cleared. Pakistan military launched comprehensive operations in the lawless tribal regions against the local and foreign militants after a deadly attack at the international airport in the southern Karachi city.
