Israeli authorities have canceled the weekly visits by Palestinian families from the Gaza Strip to their relatives detained at the southern Nafha jail, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), which coordinates the visits, said Sunday.
ICRC Spokeswoman Suheir Zaqqout said the Israeli authorities notified them of the cancellation without giving reasons.
A Palestinian source said the Israeli army had decided not to allow the families of the prisoners to cross into Israel via Erez Crossing following demonstrations on Sunday by scores of Palestinians in the vicinity of the crossing.
There are around 7,000 Palestinians in Israeli jails, including 420 from the Gaza Strip, according to Palestinian officials
