President Mahmoud Abbas Saturday called the secretary general of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Ekmeleddin Ehsanoglu, to urge him to intervene to protect al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem from Israeli measures. Abbas called on the OIC, which represents 57 Muslim countries, to hold a meeting at the highest level to discuss the Israeli attacks against al-Aqsa Mosque. He called for a stop to attacks by Israeli fanatics and police against the Muslim holy site, particularly the events of Friday when Israeli police attacked worshippers following the prayers causing injury to a number of them.
