Arabstoday has been given an exciting preview of Beirut couturier Tony Ward’s 2013 Bridal Collection. He is noted for his purity of design, painstaking attention to detail, and original embroidery. The trademark refined elegance of Ward’s creations was passed down to him through his training with the masters of couture. After completing his studies in Paris he worked with Dominique Morlotti and Claude Montana for Lanvin, Gianfranco Ferré for Dior and Karl Lagerfeld for Chloé. In 1995 he returned to Lebanon to launch his own line of Haute Couture. Tony Ward’s latest bridal collection draws inspiration from a dream world filled with perfumed flowers. It consists of 35 wedding dresses which were presented in Milan and New York, combining rich volumes, multilayered fabric, and sensual vaporous lines. The true heart of the pieces lies in the cutting and sculpting work going on inside the dresses. The volumes are carefully designed to flatter the body of the bride with clever draping, belts, or corsets that refine the waistline and provide ultra-feminine curves. The embroidery is the icing on his couture cake. The fine lace is highlighted by pearls and macramé flowers, which are delicately made by the agile hands of his atelier assistants. The base note of his process is in the selection of the best Italian silks. Lace, Organza and Gazar mingle with Mikado, Crepe and Chiffon. The layering of material is one of this collection’s highlights, where the embroidered fabrics are covered with a thin layer of wispy organza or muslin for a subtle translucent, ethereal effect.
