Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said that his country’s participation in the war on terrorism in Syria has contributed to killing more than 60,000 terrorists and the destruction of 8,000 vehicles used by terrorist organizations.
At a meeting of the Russian military command on Friday, Shoigu said that 60,318 terrorists – including 2,800 who had been born in Russia and Commonwealth of Independent States – were killed as a result of the military operations carried out by the Russian forces against the terrorist organizations in Syria, revealing that the number of Russian soldiers who were involved in the operations reached 48,000 soldiers.
He said that the Russian demining experts, alongside the Syrian military engineering units, cleared mines from 6,533 hectares, 1,410 km of roads, and 17,138 buildings.
Shoigu went on to say that Russian ships and the submarines carried out 100 strikes against terrorists in Syria, while the strategic bombers carried out 66,000 sorties, all of which resulted in the destruction of 8,000 armored vehicles used by terrorists.
