Moldovan President Igor Dodon said here on Wednesday his country strongly rejects the idea of joining the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).
Neutrality is one of a few things that are not negotiable for Moldova and a NATO membership is unacceptable, said Dodon at a meeting with Vyacheslav Volodin, Speaker of Russia's State Duma, the lower house of parliament.
Moldova also cherishes its Orthodox belief and the strategic partnership with Russia, the visiting Moldovan president added.
On Tuesday, Dodon watched a grand military parade together with Russian President Vladimir Putin in the Red Square to mark the 72nd anniversary of the Soviet Union's victory in World War II.
Moldova was a republic of former Soviet Union and is now a member of the Russia-led Commonwealth of Independent States.
Moldova shares border with Romania, a NATO member, and Ukraine, which is at odds with Russia and interested in a NATO membership.
