Bahrain's Ambassador to the United Kingdom, Shaikh Fawaz bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, yesterday chaired a coordination meeting to follow up the implementation of the outcomes of GCC-UK summit held in Manama on December 6-7, 2016 comprised the six GCC states leaders and the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.
The meeting was attended by GCC Secretary General Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashed Al Zayani; GCC Ambassadors and their deputies in the United Kingdom.
The British side consisted of Deputy National Security Advisor, Christian Turner, and British representatives of the Prime Minister’s Office; Department of Defence, Trade and Investment; Home Office and Foreign and Commonwealth Office.
The meeting discussions stemmed from the notion of shared security and prosperity stated by the British Prime Minister at the summit, revolved around implementing the outcomes it envisioned and laying a practical foundation for their delivery in the areas of regional security, defence, counter-terrorism, countering violent extremism, border and cyber security, international crimes, trade and investment, and strengthening the strong links between the peoples of the GCC and the UK. A calendar of events and objectives was put in place that includes exchange visits and multilateral meetings of ministers and heads of relevant departments in GCC member state capitals and in London.
Bahrain's Ambassador conveyed the GCC countries’ appreciation of the efforts made by the UK government and the continuous efforts of relevant departments in implementing the Manama Summit outcomes. He also noted the positive cooperation between GCC states and the UK, which is a key component of strengthening the strategic partnership.
He also thanked the GCC Secretary General and GCC ambassadors for their efforts in following up the implementation process and further developing the relationship between all parties. He noted that initiatives like this are critical in promoting the best interests of all parties in the post-Brexit era.
