The Interview had a successful weekend at the theaters bringing in $1 million despite only being shown in 331 theaters nationwide.
Theaters reported selling out on Christmas Eve across multiple locations. The film was also released on YouTube, Google Play and Microsoft Xbox Video.
It is also the top of YouTube's "Popular Right Now" list.
The film gained notoriety after several theaters and eventually Sony decided to cancel screenings due to a terrorist threat from the hackers responsible for massive leak from Sony servers. North Korea is suspected to be the culprit behind the attack after the government expressed its outrage at the film's comedic depiction of the assassination of its leader Kim Jong-un.
Unbroken came in at number one with $15.6 million in sales Christmas Day and Into the Woods came in at $13.6 million.
