The first official trailer released on 8 August garnered almost 3 million views as well as a series of mixed reactions. While many found the movie promising, others pointed to the film's thematic content: a US military prison in Guantanamo Bay in Cuba and its Camp X Ray, a temporary detention facility.
While most tweets are praising the movie and Kristen Stewart's performance as Private Amy Cole, some comments on social media have addressed the films emotional and political aspects by discussing issues such as treatment of prisoners, Hollywood revisionist strategies, terrorism, prejudices and Muslim detainees.
Directed by Peter Sattler, the movie has been nominated for the Sundance Film Festival 2014 Grand Jury Prize while Kristen Stewart has garnered several praising reviews for her role. Co-starring in the movie are Payman Maadi, Lane Garrison, J.J. Soria and John Carroll Lynch.
