Two Algerian movies received awards at the tenth International Oriental Film Festival of Geneva (FIFOG, March 20-29), the event's organizers said Sunday.
Lyes Salem's El Wahrani (2014), won the Special Jury Award for "the discussions it raised in current society," and Bahia Allouache's "Cinema Chkoupi"(2013), which received an award "because it depicts the urban and creative life, with the difficulties it faces, a life such as it may be here, there as somewhere else."
The festival's Golden FIFOG was snatched by "What's the Time in Your World," by Iranian Safi Yazdanian.
The feature film jury includes Algerian singer Djura, a member of France-based Algerian musical band "Djurdjura," and her compatriot singer and composer Kamel Hamadi.
Short films' Golden FIFOG went to "L'homme au chien" (The Man with a Dog), by Moroccan Kamal Lazraq.
