The UAE Embassy in Canada has hosted a charity fundraiser in honour of the Canadian Cancer Society, an organisation that works towards eradicating cancer and enhancing the quality of life of people living with the disease.
During the event, Mohammed Saif Hilal Al Shehhi, UAE Ambassador to Canada, in the presence of diplomatic corps and the embassy staff, presented a donation of US$10,000 to Gabriel Miller, Director of Public Issues at the Canadian Cancer Society, to contribute towards the organisation's efforts.
In his speech, the UAE Ambassador reiterated the UAE's keenness to strengthen its role in the humanitarian and charitable fields, highlighting that the UAE was at the forefront of donor countries for international development assistance between 2013-2015.
The ambassador also praised relations of cooperation between the UAE and Canada in the humanitarian field which, in the last year, resulted in the signing of a Memorandum of Bilateral Understanding. The ambassador added that humanitarian assistance is one of the main pillars of foreign policy adopted by the founding father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, and President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
