A number of dead chickens have been reported at a poultry farm in Japan's southwestern prefecture of Miyazaki. They are suspected of having had bird flu.
The prefecture received the reports from the farm in the town of Kawaminami, according to Japan's (NHK World). Officials found about 100 chickens dead.
Chickens at the farm, including those still alive, were given a preliminary check, and seven of them tested positive for avian flu. The officials ordered the operators of the farm and about 140 other farms within a 10-kilometer radius not to transport chickens or eggs.
They also said about 122,000 chickens at the affected farm will be culled if the presence of a highly pathogenic virus is confirmed in a more thorough check.
