Three doctors from the Royal Hospital’s Oncology department obtained Doctorate in Philosophy (PhD) with Honours in Oncology.
Dr. Taha Al Lawati, Dr. Bassim Al Bahrani and Dr. Murtadha Al Qubtan were the three doctors to receive the qualification, which they were able to complete in more than three years from the University of Rome in Italy. All three are senior doctors at the Royal Hospital.
Speaking to the Times of Oman, Dr. Taha Al Lawati, whose research was titled, ‘Surgical treatment for breast cancer treatment from presentation to follow-up’ said, “All three of us did some unique studies and developed ideas on the treatment of cancer. Mine was about breast cancer treatment, and the idea was that a woman does not have to lose her breast during the chemotherapy.”
Dr. Murtadha Al Qubtan’s thesis was titled ‘Common treatments from Peritoneal Cancer’ Dr. Bassim Al Bahrani’s was ‘The effects of Obesity patterns and wrong food on Colorectal Cancer.’
Royal Hospital is the only one in the country to have a dedicated and specialised Oncology ward, for both children and adults.
