The new Burjeel Hospital, Abu Dhabi announced that they have signed an agreement with the University hospital Brussels (UHB) and their Centre for Reproductive Medicine for the development and running of a similar centre. Dr Shamsheer Vayalil, Managing Director of Burjeel Hospital and Dr Marc Noppen, CEO of University Hospital Brussels (UZB) have signed the agreement to establish an In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF) centre in the Burjeel Hospital.The Centrum voor Reproductieve Geneeskunde (CRG or Centre for Reproductive Medicine) has been active within the University Hospital Brussels since 1983.As a specialised centre in reproductive health care, it has performed groundbreaking work in the development of reproductive techniques and their application. In the first 25 years of its existence more than 15,000 babies have been born as a result of treating their parents at the CRG. The medical assistance is not limited to IVF or other fertility techniques such as hormone treatment, artificial insemination, treatment of male impotency, sperm extraction surgery, reversal of sterilisation, etc. The research and treatments at the CRG also extend to related reproductive complications: repeated miscarriages, hereditary defects of one or both parents, high incidence of twins or triplets, the need for donor material, etc.Anik Van Calster, Belgian Ambassador to U A E, Eng. Zaid Daoud Al Siksek, CEO, HAAD and Lieve Decaluwe, Manager CRG, Brussels were also present for the function. This International co-operation to bring world class services to Abu Dhabi is in keeping with the Objectives of the 2030 plan for the Emirate and the HAAD predictions for increased maternity services in the coming years.
