Northern Ghor District Governor Adnan Otoum on Sunday conveyed the condolences of HRH Prince Raad, Chief Chamberlain and president of the Jordan Eye Bank Society, to the Bishtawi family, who decided to donate their deceased daughter’s corneas to the society. Their daughter had died recently along with her two children in a road accident in the Manshieh area. Nader Thuheirat, head of the society’s branch in Northern Ghor, said 350 corneas had been donated in the district since the establishment of the society in 2001, stressing that corneal transplant surgeries are performed free-of-charge in public hospitals for uninsured patients upon Royal directives. Corneal transplants can reverse blindness or visual impairments in patients with damaged or diseased corneas.
