Fazle Hasan Abed, founder and chairman of BRAC ( formerly, Bangladesh Rural Advancement Committee) said on Tuesday he was proud to be awarded the prize of the World Innovation Summit for Education WISE by HH the Emir Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa al Thani. Abed was awarded earlier Wednesday at the opening of the WISE conference in recognition of his efforts to ease the problems of poverty through education. He said that over 40 years of work with BRAC he noted that education is the prime means for education towards a world that is free of exploitation and discrimination. Winner of the WISE prize is awarded a golden medal plus a financial award of $500,000 dollars. Abed’s work spanned four decades in education, health, human rights and social development and brought financial services to the doorstep of millions of the poor in an effort to eradicate poverty in Bangladesh and countries in Asia and Africa.
