Drought leaves million lacking drinking water in China

A severe drought in southwest China’s Guizhou Province has left more than 3 million people short of drinking water
.
According to the provincial flood control and drought relief commissions, around 17.06 million people in 1,311 towns have been affected by the scorching temperatures and lack of water since, it began in July.
1.34 million hectares of arable farmlands have been left dry, with around 1.49 million cattle also lacking water.
According to initial calculations, the drought has caused 9.54 billion Yuan, (1.56 billion US dollars), in economic losses to the country.
The provinces meteorological department said it expects the dry climate to continue for a few more weeks.
