Youth key to UAE economic diversification
Emirati women and youth are increasingly driving UAE's economic diversification by assuming key roles, a corporate boss told the Government Summit in Dubai on Monday. Khaldoun Al Mubarak, CEO of Mubadala Group, said Emirati women
are in senior management in a number of its companies.
Mubadala is Abu Dhabi's "principal agent” for economic diversification away from its main resource of oil. The state-run company has a portfolio valued at more than US$55 billion (Dh201.8 billion).
Al Mubarak mentioned a number of examples where female managers are leading diversification at its subsidiaries — in healthcare, micro-technology and education.
Around 80 per cent of workers in Mubadala's aircraft components plant in Al Ain are women. He also said young Emiratis were the core group behind developing the UAE's first multipurpose satellite system, Yahsat.
