Moroccan government will place more importance on role of housewives
The Moroccan Justice and Development Party has demanded the establishment of family support clinics in Morocco be speeded up.
The centre’s will focus on informing and guiding
newlywed couples about their role in the family and how to maintain a healthy relationship. The initiative comes in light of the growing number of divorce cases in Morocco. Many families are living separately but fail to file for divorce.
Chaired by Bassima Hakkaoui, Minister of Solidarity, Women, Family and Social Development - the party is calling for the government to place more importance on the role of motherhood in Moroccan society. This includes implementing a convenient system for time off for working mothers and allocating monthly financial compensation for housewives.
The benefit will be in recognition of a stay at home mother’s role of caring and educating her children and to cover basic health care.
Prime Minister Abdelilah Benkirane has pledged to meet the demands of the Moroccan women, confirming that he will resign from his job if his behaviour or attitude does not reflect support for women.
