Sharjah Girl Guides (SGG), in collaboration with Human Appeal International (HAI), distributed ‘AlMair AlRamadani’ to a number of families in need yesterday (Saturday). More than 30 Guides and Brownies participated in the initiative, which saw the handing out of food and consumer items to 25 households in Sharjah.
Themed ‘Spread Happiness’, the initiative was in line with SGG’s efforts to promote a culture of humanitarian charity through volunteering and donating, as well as instil a love of virtue to help the poor and those in need and enhance national compassion within Guides and Brownies. The distributed ‘AlMair AlRamadani’ packages included a number of essential commodities, with foodstuffs including sugar, rice, tea, vegetable oil, flower, and salt among other essentials.
“The distribution of ‘‘AlMair AlRamadani’ aligns with other charity initiatives implemented by many national institutions all across the UAE on the occasion of the Holy Month of Ramadan. Through this activity, the Sharjah Girl Guides and their younger peers the Brownies are able to appreciate the importance ofproviding for less fortunate families throughout the Holy Month, especially in covering their basic nutritional needs,” said Sheikha Al Shamsi, Assistant Manager at SGG.
Al Shamsi added; “We seek, through this initiative, to promote and encourage the act of donating and doing charity work for Guides and Brownies, the way our leaders taught us, in particular the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan - may God have mercy upon him - the founding father of the United Arab Emirates, who was a pioneer in humanitarian and charitable deeds. We consider solidarity and compassion during the Holy Month of Ramadan to be the core of building strong spiritual bonds among members of the community. Charitable deeds strengthen the social fabric and bring individuals together, making them more affectionate, compassionate and merciful.”
The Guiding movement was established in Sharjah in 1973 after which it spread to all seven emirates, giving rise to the Girl Guides Association of the United Arab Emirates in 1979. Under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Wife of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah and Chairperson of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs, SGG aims to inspire and nurture future generations to become progressive global citizens by providing a platform for girls to develop to their fullest potential.
