Saudi citizens are entitled to numerous state benefits
A new decree issued by Saudi Arabia's Labour Ministry will allow children to inherit Saudi citizenship from their mothers, if their fathers are from outside the country.
Saudi citizenship entitles children with Saudi mothers
to numerous benefits, including education fees, medical care and the right to work in Saudi private sector companies.
Saudi women will also be allowed to gain sponsorship for their foreign husbands, enabling them to work in the Saudi private sector.
In 2011, nearly 2000 Saudi women married foreign men, with a quarter choosing Yemeni nationals as their preferred partners. Kuwaiti (351), Qatari (247), Syrian (149) and Egyptian men (124) also featured on the list of partners, which included men from USA, UK, Europe, Indonesia and Chad.
