UAE's American University of Ras Al Khaimah (AURAK) participated in the first conference of Arab and European universities hosted by the University of Barcelona from May 30
to June 1.
AURAK's Vice-Chancellor Hassan Hamdan al-Alkim attended the gathering focused on promoting dialogue and mutual understanding, knowledge sharing and increased cooperation between Arab and European institutions.
On the participation of AURAK in this international Conference, Alkim said: "Our participation was aimed at benefiting from the experience of the countries of the European Union and to find common ground regarding the development of higher education and the transfer of expertise. The conference explored the new role of universities in the face of the challenges of globalisation and internationalisation, as well as identify new roles to address social and economic challenges.
"We are looking at AURAK to communicate with international universities in the exchange of faculty and students and build channels of scientific cooperation. This first conference provided an opportunity for Arab universities to learn from the experiences of European universities in the development of academic programmes and faculty and teaching methods and enable Arab researchers to publish their research in scientific journals with global reputation."
The conference was the result of the efforts of the Secretariat of the Union of Arab Universities towards a policy of openness and communication with international universities to open channels and bridges of scientific cooperation with international universities, whether in the field of student and faculty exchange.
