The Moroccan National Debate team won three awards at the 2017 Parliamentary Debate World Congress (PDAWC), held in Japan.
Invited by Japan’s Parliamentary Debate Personnel Development Association (PDA), the Moroccan debate team flew to the country to attend the three-day competition, which ran from January 20 to 22.
The debate team represented Morocco and Africa while competing against 15 other nations from Asia and Europe.
The international debate competition was organized by the PDA to promote parliamentary English in Japanese high schools and represent a forum for cultural exchange.
“Though Morocco lost to Italy in the semifinals, the two Moroccan debaters were considered the best among the English-speaking participants,” said Soufiane Choubani, head coach.
Ali Nadifi, 16, finished the competition as the 4th best speaker out of 44 participants. Nadifi was also awarded a prize for the Top Five Points of Information, for his high skill in providing objections during a speech against the opponent.
The team also brought home the Best Culture Expo award for their presentation about Morocco.
