Teachers in the U.A.E. are highly respected, appreciated and honoured in tribute for their core role in building of the human being and nation, Sheikha Lubna bint Khalid Al Qasimi, Minister of International Cooperation and Development (MICAD), and President of Zayed University (ZU), said ahead of the World Teachers' Day.
''When we review the successive achievements in our professional career, our memory recalls with all thanks and reverence those who imparted knowledge and science to us while were children in schools and then in universities.
Building of the future starts from that close relationship between the pupil and his teacher....... it's a relationship aimed at building a human being and a future project for the nation's renaissance,'' Sheikha Lubna said in a statement on the eve of the World Teachers' Day, being celebrated this year under the theme: '' Invest in the future, Invest in teachers.'' The United Nations' (UN) World Teachers' Day celebrates the role teachers play in providing quality education at all levels. This enables children and adults of all ages to learn to take part in and contribute to their local community and global society ''While we are marking this Day, we send a message of gratitude, esteem and thanks to educators who have spent their lives and made efforts so as information reach us in a very simple way and to remain in our memory and keep it as a accumulative knowledge by time so that we can contribute in the nation building process,'' the minister added.
On October 5, 1994, the first World Teachers' Day was held. This event has been organized on the same date each year since then. Its aim is to mobilize support for teachers and to ensure that the needs of future generations will continue to be met by teachers.
According to UNESCO, World Teachers' Day represents a significant token of the awareness, understanding and appreciation displayed for the vital contribution that teachers make to education and development.
