March will take place at the University of Jordan
The National Campaign for the Rights of Students in Jordan, and the Jordanians Teachers Union will march for the rejection of violence in universities and improved student freedoms.
The march will be held in the University of Jordan on Tuesday under the banner; "No to violence in university." There has been an increase in the number of violent incidents at Jordanian universities. In the last four months two students have been killed and dozens more injured.
The national campaign identified an increase in the number of clashes in universities over the past two years, from 31 in 2010 to 60 in 2011. In 2012 there were 80 reported cases of violence. The campaign sent a message to the government in early 2012 asking for intervention and immediate action to draw new strategies to stop the escalating violence, a message which they felt was ignored.
Students have accused the government of “sticking their heads in the sand” when it comes to dealing with campus violence.
