Mohammed Omran Al Shamsi, the Chancellor of the Higher Colleges of Technology, HCT, has welcomed Dr. Abdullatif Al Shamsi, the new HCT Vice Chancellor, during a meeting held with HCT college directors, deans and supervisors of the 17 campuses.
During his welcome speech, Al Shamsi emphasised that from its inception, HCT has successfully achieved many milestones, and has all the resources to be ranked number one among higher educational institutions, both locally and internationally, which is HCT's main strategic objective.
He added that education is at the top of the list of priorities of the government's plan, and which HCT will contribute to achieve. He also reiterated the interest of Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, in education and educational institutions, as well as his continuous support for this vital sector to consolidate the government's vision and interest in education, and promote human capital as an essential national asset.
Mohammad Al Shamsi also spoke about the leadership's interest in improving education which was demonstrated by a speech delivered by His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, during the latest Government Summit where he stressed that the UAE will continue to grow bigger, even after the end of oil production, thanks to its human capital and investment in education.
"I would like to welcome Dr. Abdullatif Al Shamsi as Vice Chancellor of the Higher Colleges of Technology and wish him success and good guidance regarding his new duties. I am also keen to confirm that the Higher Colleges of Technology has been characterised, since its inception, by successes and achievements at many levels," he said in his welcoming speech.
"The solid basis on which the Higher Colleges of Technology was built gives us full confidence that we, as one work team, possess the ability to soar with this great educational institution to the highest levels, not only locally but internationally. No doubt, in order to achieve our goals, we need to make necessary changes in the quality of our educational systems, tools and output. We also need to properly implement plans to achieve these goals. Consequently, these plans require us to proceed with carefully studied and confident steps using all of our capabilities and resources," he added.
The chancellor pointed out that all HCT employees should be determined, as one team, to work seriously and faithfully in all positions, regardless of any challenges, in order to achieve HCT's strategic goals. "We should also be determined to overcome any hurdles that might stand in the way of this important and serious mission that the esteemed leadership of our country adopts and supports. Such mission focuses on education and innovation as basic ingredients that are in accordance with the ambitious government's plan for the development and the prosperity of this country and its people," he said.
He also confirmed that there are many goals to achieve, including evaluation of the curriculum in order to respond to market needs, as well as the creation of a stimulating work environment to enhance creativity and innovation and meet the needs of HCT colleges.
