Minister of Higher Education Malik Ali said that more than 179 thousand student submitted their papers to join the university for the academic year of 2013-2014, the majority of them of the literary secondary schools, adding that
more than 119000 student have been admitted to the Syrian universities.
During a regular session of the People's Assembly, headed by Speaker Mohammad Jihad al-Laham, the Minister addressed questions raised by members of the Assembly on improving the situation of the higher education and the possibility of opening new faculties in a number of Syrian cities.
For their part, members of the people's Assembly called for facilitating the procedures of the families of the civilian martyrs and treating them as those of the Syrian Arab army when submitting their papers to the university admission department, affirming the need for linking the academic education to the work market.
The MPs also called for the need to reconsider the high installments in the private universities and giving amnesty to the students who have committed some exam breaches.
