Director General of Jordan News Agency, Petra, Faisal Al Shboul
A two-day media forum entitled "Media and National Security" opened today in the Bahraini capital of Manama with around 150 media figures from the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member countries participating in addition to the Director
General of Jordan News Agency, Petra, Faisal Al Shboul.
In his remarks during the forum, Al Shboul said it was being held in exceptional circumstances that the region is passing through, noting that the media and its tools were governed by laws unlike the social media which has not yet been regulated through any special laws and regulations.
He added that the users of social media should be responsible and held accountable for what they publish, especially when it comes to calls that incite sedition and sectarianism.
Bahraini Minister of State for Media Affairs Samira Rajab said in remarks that the accelerating developments in the world and the Arab region underlined the need to review the media and its role at the international level.
