Cairo’s iconic state media organisation, found in the Maspero building, will be closed down and operations moved to Media Production City (MPC), according to an exclusive by Egypt’s al-Watan newspaper
.On Friday Arabstoday reported on secret documents confirming negotiations centred on the sale of the Nile-front Maspero building, with production and broadcast operations moved to new premises at MPC at an undisclosed date.
Sources have confirmed back-room deals to sell the building, which was first commissioned by former President Gamal Abdel Nasser in 1959, becoming the first state-run broadcasting organisation in the Arab world and Africa.
The move will take place in gradual stages, sources revealed.
