The Dubai Festivals and Retail Establishment, DFRE, an agency of the Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing, DTCM, and the organisers of the Dubai Shopping Festival, has announced the Dubai Shopping Festival Media Awards.
Held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, the DFRE will honour journalists, photographers and media organisations under 11 award categories.
Since the inception of the Festival, the DSF Journalism Award and DSF Photography Award have been an annual feature of the festival, and in celebration of the 20th Anniversary, these two awards have now been combined and renamed the DSF Media Awards.
The aim of the DSF Media Awards is to recognise the unique role played by media personnel and their organisations in the evolution of DSF, its emergence as a leading festival brand and its achievement of reaching the milestone 20th edition, which began on 1st January and runs until 1st February 2015 under the theme, "Journey of Celebrations".
This year, DFRE has introduced new award categories and expanded some to provide the widest possible participation of media personnel in various channels including print, broadcast and online at a local, regional and international level in both English and Arabic.
Laila Mohammed Suhail, CEO of DFRE, said, "Since the launch of DSF in 1996, the media has been playing an important role in making it a world famous festival. Indeed, the success achieved in the first edition of DSF, when we launched the DSF Journalism Award and the DSF Photography Award in appreciation of the support extended by many media personnel and organisations, exceeded our expectations. Their contribution has constantly motivated us and been a strong incentive for us to continue pursuing our goals and raising the bar year after year, leading the way to the 20th edition of the festival.
DFRE will accept applications from journalists and media organisations under nine different categories, and from photographers in two categories.
The jury that will judge this year's awards will scrutinise entries on the basis of various parameters such as quality of research, writing style, quality of content, creativity in news angle and overall impact of the story.
The deadline to submit entries is Sunday, 1st February, 2015, which is the last day of DSF. All entries must be submitted to the Media Centre of the Dubai Festivals and Retail Establishment.
