At the Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este this year, BMW Motorrad unveiled a spectacular new study, titled "Concept 101," that could forecast the future of the brand's baggers, an exclusive type of custom bike especially popular in the USA. For the German constructor, this model represents quintessential elegance, power and luxury on two wheels.
Quality materials, precious wood and leather figure in the extremely refined fabrication of these baggers, a cruising motorcycle equipped with luggage compartments.
Designed to slice through the air, the Concept 101 has a futuristic appearance, with a low center of gravity, extended exhausts, an aluminum frame, LED rear lights and a minimalist windshield. As for the engine, the capacity of the in-line six cylinders is 1,649 cc, approximately equivalent to 101 cubic inches, as the bike's name suggests.
Developed in California, this new concept clearly has wide open spaces and travel in mind. It also provides a glimpse of what could be the successor to the K1600 GT, which could, starting in 2016 or 2017, become Harley Davidson's stiffest competition on its own turf.
As a reminder, the last BMW K1600 GT, launched in 2013, is equipped with a 160hp six cylinder engine, two types of additional braking capabilities, "Rain" and "Road," along with three new riding modes, "Dynamic," "Enduro" and "Enduro Pro." The bike costs just over $20,000.
