At a special auction to take place in Denmark on September 26, Bonhams will put no fewer than 13 Rolls-Royces on the block, all of them belonging to Danish collector Henrik Frederiksen.
Among the 48 lots up for auction are several rare Rolls-Royces, the highlight of which is a 1914 Silver Ghost Skiff, referred to at the time as the "best car in the world" and presently valued at between US$1.1 and1.4 million (€960,000 and €1.2 million). This car has had several owners over the years, from Europe to Egypt to the US.
Several other models are also valued at more than €500k, such as the 1933 Phantom II Continental Owen Sedanca Coupe at US$850,000-1.1 million (€750k-€960k), the 1910 Silver Ghost "Balloon Car" at US$690,000-940,000 (€620k-€830k), the 1912 Silver Ghost Cabriolet at US$630,000- 850,000 (€560k-€750k), the 1913 Silver Ghost Tourer at US$630,000-850,000 (€560k-€750k) and the 1937 Phantom III Drophead Coupé at US$600,000 - 790,000(€540k-€700k). The most recent Rolls-Royce up for auction is a 1973 Phantom VI Cabriolet, a creation by Italian designer Pietro Frua that is valued between US$300,000-390,000 (€270k and €350k).
Besides these English beauties, the collection up for auction also includes a 1933 Maybach DS-8 Zeppelin Cabriolet estimated to sell for US$ 3-3.6 million (€2.7-€3.2 million), a 1930 Duesenberg Model J Disappearing Top Roadster at US$2.6-3.2 million (€2.3-€2.8 million) and a 1914 Mercedes 28/95 Phaeton at US$1.5-2 million (€1.3-€1.7 million).
The auction of the Frederiksen collection will be held at Lyngsbækgaard, a property in the middle of the Mols Bjerge national park near Aarhus, on Saturday, September 26.
