Famous Home Alone
Ever fancied setting up paint can booby traps for burglars but never felt like you had the room' Well, you could always put in an offer for the original Home Alone house, which has just gone on
the market with an ice cold asking price of $2.4 million.
The 1920s Georgian mansion - situated in the Winnetka suburb of Chicago - starred alongside a cute Macauley Culkin in John Hughes' 1990 hit comedy about a stranded boy who protects his home from two incompetent criminals. It's the latest in a line of cinematic homes to come up for sale, with the houses from The Amityville Horror and Woody Allen's Sleeper all going on the market in the past year.
The three-storied mansion, which was bought by current owners John and Cynthia Abendshien in 1988 for $875,000, is being billed by estate agents as a 'Classic residence [that] offers timeless and inspired family living'. Marissa Hopkins, an agent for the property, praised the house to TMZ, saying: 'Very few homes have a leading role in a movie, in a sense becoming an additional character.'
Hughes had already approached the Abendshien's a few months before, asking to use the house in his previous movie, Uncle Buck. He eventually secured it for the Home Alone franchise, with the first two installments directed by Chris Columbus, who went on to make three Harry Potter films.
