Luxury 5-star property Gleneagles Hotel offers 'teen rooms'
Be it a separate room loaded with Playstation and Wii games, an iPod dock, or teen concierges, the hotel industry is increasingly catering to teenagers as they recognise the consumer
- and nagging - power of adolescents on family vacations.
In Scotland, for instance, five-star property Gleneagles Hotel offers “teen rooms” that come fully loaded with teen-friendly amenities like Playstations and iPod docks. Rooms are also separate from the parents' accommodations to give both parents and teens a break from each other, reports trade site HotelChatter.com.
In Australia, the Marriott chain plans to hire virtual “teen concierges” to help build city guides for their peers staying in properties in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and the Gold Coast. Travel tips will be written by teens for teens on social media platforms. “This City, My Way,” is set to debut in September. On-site teen concierges will be available during the school breaks.
The new programme follows on the heels of the Omni brand, which kicked off its “Teen Connection” programme across their select properties last year. Well-travelled teen concierges are hired to also provide tips to their peers on local activities, restaurants and attractions. Teen guests are also invited to text, email, or connect with their travel expert on Twitter or Facebook.
And at the Four Seasons Marrakech, adolescents have their own ‘Young Adult Centre’ reserved for 13-to-17-year-olds who can watch movies, play video games on the Wii and PlayStation, and have free reign over the ping pong, foosball, and pool tables.
