Helmut Lang Fall-Winter 2013 look
Michael and Nicole Colovos are set to leave the luxury label after eight years at the helm. The American and Kiwi husband-and-wife team have been in charge since 2006, having taken over the NYC-based fashion brand from its German founder
. Helmut Lang ran his brand from its foundation in 1986 up until 2005, when he quit the world of fashion to focus on his career as a painter.
"I want to extend my sincere thanks to Michael and Nicole for their commitment to the house and its successful evolution into a leading force in the contemporary marketplace," Andrew Rosen, CEO of Helmut Lang's parent company, Link Theory Holdings told Style.com. "I am confident in their future and wish them all the best."
"We are grateful for the opportunity that Andrew gave us to reestablish Helmut Lang. We will always have a deep affection for the brand," added Michael and Nicole Colovos.
The brand is reportedly on the hunt for a new creative director, with the in-house design team working on the next Resort 2015 collection.
Still, creative directors appear to be hard to come by these days, as Mulberry (without a designer since the departure of Emma Hill last fall) can attest. Might Helmut Lang join the new trend of headless fashion houses, with collections designed by the usual team, but without a big name designer to take the bow?
Maison Martin Margiela has carried on since the eponymous Belgian founder slipped out of the business at some point during the last decade, and Jil Sander has shown both men's and womenswear runway collections since the German designer departed at the end of last year for the third time. Let's wait and see.
